Foreword

Note:

The x708 has been sold out and there is no plan to produce it for the time being. You can use the X728, which can completely replace the X708

If you want to purchase in bulk, please contact us at info@geekworm.com

NOTE: The X708 UPS DOES NOT support Raspberry Pi 5 hardware

Why did X708 come out?

Although we provide a compelete raspberry pi NAS solution with NAS shield(X825/X857/X829/X835 etc.),X735 and matching metal case, but we still have received many feedbacks that want to support UPS, so we have to respond to this request.

Our original intention of designing X708 is to match with NAS shell (such as X829-C1, X857-C3 or X857-C1, X825-C7) to provide a raspberry pi NAS solution with UPS function. In order to save space, we must separate the battery from the UPS expansion board when designing . This is also the biggest difference between X708 and X728;

Working principle

The GPIO13 is used to control the power button, It goes high for 3 seconds that means the power switch is pressed and held for 3 seconds. then the X708 will issue a pulse to inform the system to implement safeshutdown via GPIO5, and will monitor the GPIO12, once shutdown process is implemented, GPIO 12 will go to low and will be recognized by the X708, then the X708 will wait for 7-8seconds then fully cut off power.

Firstly you have to get the script for power management well installed and run at boot. You can use the onboard power switch to verify , press and hold for 3 seconds, the blue LED will flash slowly and the shutdown is going then all LEDs will be off. once this works, then you can use the GPIO13 control.

The hardware and its firmware are verified. if you have a DMM, you can use it mesuare the GPIO voltage which will be helpful to understand above.

Hello everybody

I use a UPS X708 from two year ago to control a Raspberry and OpenCPN. From the last navigation, the UPS has a rare working. Normally when the power supply disappear, the OpenCPN close by a deamon then 5sec later the Ups shutdown the raspberry ans stop all. But from a week, when the PS dissappear, the OpenCPN stop, the Raspberry shutdonx, but Bleu LED flash three time for +/- 10 sec, then the raspi reboot with the PS always off ? I have try different way, manually shutdown raspi then the UPS, but problem still. If when UPS and Raspi ON, I press the pushbutton for 3 sec, raspberry shutdown immediately. Any body a idea why ??

Thank you

Hi, the auto on after power failure is not working consistently. To power on sometimes I need to unplug the USB C power cable and re-plug.

Please note that I have consistently: 1) Waited a few minutes after the battery indicator light is off - a long as 5 minutes, there is no way the USB plug is still providing power. 2) USB plug is disconnected from mains.

Thanks in advance

Hello, I would like to ask a question, please:

On the x728 model, if the power supply is turned off and the battery voltage drops below 3.0, the Raspberry will shut down.

However, if the power supply returns and the battery voltage is higher than 2.6, the Raspberry does not auto power on.

Does this behavior also occur with the x708 model?

Thanks in advance!

Hi I tried to connect battery low led to external PH2.0 connector but it seems like it does not light up when battery low blinks on the board and when i run continuity test on that connector (when board is off) there is a short between pins 2 and 3 to ground.

I have X708 v2.0, is this my board's fault or schematic has changed for external power switch? It seems like it was reworked to adapt for 4 pin momentary switch with led light (so pins go like this power on/gnd/gnd/power led)

What is the total idle/quiescent current draw from the battery to the X708, when the X708 is switched on (not in sleep mode), but there is only a very small current (a few uA) drawn on the output?

In other words, what is the X708 battery current just for it to be switched on?

Your specs say the max output current is 6A, and the max charging current is 4A. But on the datasheet for the IP5310 which is shown on the X708 PCB, the max output current is 3.1A and max charging current is 3A...

So, which is the correct specification? 6A out and 4A in, or 3.1A out and 3A in?

Also, if 6A and 4A is correct, how did you manage that if it is more than what the IP5310 can provide?

It definitely works. I just received mine last couple of days. You must have missed an enabling step, also be sure that you have power connected to x708 and not the PI directly.

1. Enable i2c 2. Reboot 3. clone x728 project from github 4. Open x728.sh and comment out first four lines 5. Install the x728 features/scripts

6. sudo x728softsd.sh #shut it down

Q:What battery is recommended for X708?

A:Please use big brand and high quality batteries, like PANPASONIC, Toshiba... Also the batteries for X708 must have built-in protection circuit.

It doesn't matter whether the battery has a protection circuit or not, the most important thing is that the size of the battery can fit the battery holder.

I have not found any 18650 Lithium ion batteries with a safety circuit that are 65.3 mm long. All of the 18650 type batteries with a safety circuit are 68-69 mm long. Comments??
