The disks are really close together, but the box have its own power supply. So I guess my problem was power supply and not FEM.)

I installed the appropriate x730 script from the github repo as per instructions for the v2.1 hat. everything works great for a few shutdowns/reboots but, and i have tried this five times now, after a few reboots the root fs becomes locked and im greeted with a notification that the fs is corrupt and has been locked by root and system becomes unbootable. currently im using it with out the script just fir the cooling fan but it would be great...) Does this mean you can control whether the batteries are enabled via software now? If so, that brings a whole new realm of possibilities with combining other power supply hats and using one of these as a dedicated fallback, if I'm understanding correctly.)
