Overview

This is an ultra-compact raspberry pi 4 dual 2.5 inch sata hdd/ssd storage board X882, it allows two 2.5" HDD/SSD to working at the same time with your Raspberry Pi 4. The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port delivers a blistering data transfer rate of up to 5Gbps, letting you transfer a large amount of data in seconds.

X882 is not sold seperately, we have designed a case for X882 and sold it as a set, please refer to NASPi Gemini

Update History: In December 2022, the X882 V1.3 has been updated to X882 V2.0, remove the USB-C port on X882 V1.3, and update DC 5V power in to wide voltage input DC6-18V power in. The new version completely solve the issue of I/O error.

X882 V2.0 VS X882 V1.3

Some Tips

FAQ

Q1. Why did the second HDD is not recognized?

A: You found only one hard drive if you select the RAID0/RAID1 mode.

Please exit the RAID mode and check again after entering the PM mode(clear raid mode).

More details please refer to Set CLEAR RAID mode of How to configure RAID

Q2: What to do if HDD/SSD is not recognized?

A: Please refer to How to View/Partition/Format/Mount HDD/SSD

Hello, how can I use the power button on the board? Do I have to connect the power to the board? Because it is currently being powered by the Pi4

Do you think you will bring out an "Raspberry Pi 5" upgrade kit? Or do I have to buy a new gemini built for Pi5?

Hello,

I've got the version 1.3. I tried several settings but always got troubles when i try to upload a large amount of files: the SSD are disconnecting.

When i tried using seafile, this issue corrupted the database and i lost all the data. Now i'm only using Samba and at least the issue only stop the current upload and don't destroy previous data.

My question is: may it be related to the DC 5V power supply? I'm using a 5V10A supply, but maybe something is limited on the board?

How could i solve or circumvent this problem?

Some precision: when I said "SSD are disconnecting": the Pi works well, and i got a message on raspbian specifying that the disks unmounted. when I reboot the pi, the drives are mounted back.

Hello, the problem you are talking about may be caused by the power supply, because dual hard drives have relatively high power requirements. The initial version 1.3 used a 5V 4A power input. Later we upgraded to version 2.0, which used a 12V 5A power input. Power supply, the current version 2.0 has solved the problem of insufficient power supply (tip: version 1.3 cannot be directly connected to 12V, because it will burn the board)

Thank you for your answer. You may understand that i'm not really keen to buy another board, and the 1.3 is not usable as it is whith this power input problem.

On the 2.0, there seems to be components around the DC input that may be used to regulate the power from the 6-18V jack to the components requirements.

I may be able to "replicate" this part of the board, but for this what would be the output specifications?

Are the SSD still powered with 5V on within the 2.0 board?

1. First of all, x882 v2.0 cannot use 5V input, because dual hard drives usually require relatively large voltages, and 5V will cause insufficient power supply. 2. your mean by ‘replicate’ may not be able to solve this problem. This is more complicated.

We have reported the problem you previously reported to the manufacturer. In addition to the problem you mentioned may be caused by insufficient power supply of the V1.3 version (when transferring large files), there is another possibility that the SSD EMC interference is relatively large, so you You can try using an HDD to see if the problem still exists.

Yes, I understand that you cannot input 5V on the 2.0 board, that was not my question.

You are basically telling me that after buying a 50$ V1.3 board that is not working as intended (plus a power supply, shipping and taxes), I should either buy new HDDs or a new 2.0 board.

I'm not really thrilled by this idea, and my goal was to know if there was a way to modify the 1.3 board to help solve the issue (I have access to some equipment and could for exemple build a power supply). I understand that this may not be possible, and even that if it is possible it would not be easy nor guaranteed to work.

But the other possibilities for me would be to either buy a 2.0 board (with no guarantee that it would be better) or some HDD (for lower performance, but i could allow that, but again how to be sure that this investment would solve the issue?), or drop the project altogether.

Hello, have you tried HDD? The problem you mentioned may also be caused by SSD EMC interference is relatively large, not necessarily caused by the power supply.

By the way, can you provide your order number?

Hello, just to keep you updated: I was able to find another product to plug my SSDs in RAID. It works fine.

The disks are really close together, but the box have its own power supply. So I guess my problem was power supply and not FEM.

Hi... Did anyone try to boot a Pi from SSD / HDD with this x882 board with just ONE drive attached? In this case my Pi do just NOTHING only if i attach a second drive to the board (no matter if there is something saved on the drive or not - just the hardware) the Pi will boot properly.

Can please anyone try this & give a report?

Let me introduce you roughly, RAID mode (PM/RAID 0/RAID 1/SPAN), when choosing one of the RAID modes, you need short or open A/B, you can choose one of the RAID modes, 1 .Short A&B (RAID 0) at the same time, or 2.open A and short B(RAID 1),3.open B and short A(SPAN),4.open A and B(PM) at the same time, hope it can help you, If you still don’t understand, you can send question to our email. Hi - the X882 board has a blue LED for both HDD1 and HDD2. Just above those blue LEDs are smaller red LEDs.

What do those red LEDs indicate: a) when briefly flash b) when constantly on

Thank you!
