The X835 board has been discontinued for years!!!

Tips about 3pcs DC 5V OUT Port:

When use external latching switch on X835 board, please do not connect 2pin power cable to DC 5V OUT nearby USB2 and USB3.

Power Supply

• Power supply: 12Vdc +/-5% , ≥3A
• Ports & Connectors: DC jack - 5.5x2.5mm

PS: As we know that the power supply is very important to the hard disk, so please do not use the low quality power adapter. Please use a high quality power adapter, or you may encounter problems such as not recognizing the hard disk.

How to connect X835 and X735?

NOTE: X735 use DC 5V/4A power adapter, X835 use DC 12V/3A power adapter, so DON'T directly connect the 12V/3A PSU to the X735，otherwise the X735 will burn out.

Note: If you need to use just one piece 3.5" SATA HDD for Raspberry Pi 4, please refer to X832, the X832 use USB bridge to connect Pi 4 with X832.

FAQ

1. Why when multiple X835 boards are stacked together, except for the first X835 at the top, all other X835s are not powered on?

Answer: When multiple X835 boards are stacked, except for the first X835 board on the top, the two jumpers of the other X835 boards need to be plugged in, otherwise they will not be powered on.

2. How to use external power switch for X835 board?

Answer: 1. Please use latching switch only and not use momentary switch; The jumper socket fitted for "PWR ON" must be removed when using an external latching power switch. 2.All the board, cable, jumper connections must be under power-off station.

3. What power supply requires for X835?

Answer: The X835 reuqires 12Vdc +/-5% , ≥3A power supply with DC jack - 5.5x2.5mm.

4. Where to connect the power supply?

Answer: Whatever to use with X735 or not, the PSU must be connected to X835 DC 12V IN port, not X735 or Raspberry Pi.

5.How to connect the X735 with X835?

Answer: Connect the 2pin power cable from X835 "5V OUT" to X735 "5V IN". Connect another 2 pinc power cable from X835 "PWR Ctrl" to X735 "5V OUT".

6. How to set the Jumper cap on X735?

Answer: The "L-SW" pin must be shorted when use X735 latching switch port to connect an external latching switch.

7. How to connect the power switch in the X835 metal case?

Answer: Connect the power switch to X735 "Latching Switch" port when use with X735.

8. How many X835 borads can I stack?

In theory, it can stack as many X835 as possible, but considering the speed of USB3 and power supply issues, it recommend that just stack about 3-5pcs X835.

Hi,

my x835 ist working great with pi4 and x735. Now I want to stack some more 3.5 HDDs but the board is sold out everywhere (amazon+ali). Is it still in production or is there a new version i could use instead? Would be great to hear from you!

Hi, I guess no one will reply me about that but let me take a try : I'd like to use it on my Raspberry Pi 4 but it already got a HAT that doesn't allow to connect something else on GPIOs pins (the concerned HAT is Hifiberry DAC+ DSP, sadly we can't put links here). So here is my question, could we make the x835 board power the Raspberry through USB-C than through GPIOs (like with an adapter or something) ?

Hi，x835 or X832 can't realize your idea. You can consider the X880, which provides power to the pi through the test pin instead of the power cord, so it does not occupy GPIO

What OS should I use to make x835 work? Right now I'm using ubuntu serve 20.10 and cannot see any storage devices connected to my rpi 4. I was using lsblk and sudo fdisk -l to check

Hi there, I've got an X835, Raspberry Pi 4B with a WD 2.5" 2TB SATA. Raspberry Pi is up and running with Raspbian (w/ OpenMediaVault running) and fully updated/upgraded. However, my Raspberry Pi is not detecting the SATA drive. It is NTFS formatted but I've confirmed that ntfs-3g (i.e FUSE) is present and up to date. When I disconnect it from my Pi and connect to my Win 10 machine (still inside the X835) it immediately mounts on the Win 10 machine, so I know power and the drive aren't issues. Any suggestions on how to make it appear correctly?

got two x835 which work without problems until to day when I was converting them to use USB Boot option on the PI4,Followed the instruction which are on the is wiki. There is a problem when the HDD are 4TB in size the "SD Card copier" fails when it trys to partition 256 and the rest of the drive, the second partion fails to write. (I have the though that there is a 2tb limit)

Will try this on the Rasberry Pi org as a problem.

Hello!

I am using Raspberry Pi 4B (booting from sd card) with a single X835 board and WD blue 3.5" HDD. I have two questions:

1) Is there a way how to configure the system to spin down the HDD (stop its rotation) when inactive for certain time? Currently, the HDD is only used rarely, but it keeps spinning forever.

2) What is the proper way to shut down the system? When I shut down the Pi ($ sudo shutdown -h now), the red PWR LED on the Pi is lit (on) - this is probably normal. The problem is that the X835 board stays on and the HDD keeps spinning. Is it safe to disconnect the 12V power input of X835 at this point? Can't it damage the HDD or my data?

hello,i would like to attach 5 hard drive with 8Tb to my raspberry pi 4 using board X835. My question is: 1- can i use just one power supply? 2- if not, how much i need, and how i connect? 3- if yes, is just connect to the first X835 board? What is the maximum amount of hdd I can connect to rpi 4 using X835 borads, do I also need to upgrade power supply if use a lot of disks like for example 5+, if yes what is the most convenient way to do so.

Hi, I have ordered two X835 boards in order to stack them. But I don't think there's enough room for the 3,5 disk if I stack. Also, I don't have the needed screws to "link" them together. Where do I get them?

I'm using a Rasperry Pi 4 B with a X835 , a 6TB HDD and a X735 with a 12V 5A power supply. The Pi work and the X835 work also (tested is on my laptop) but when i plug the x835 with the Pi, the Pi seems to freeze. Any ideas what could be the issue ?

I found the issue ! It seems sometimes USB3 messed up with the wifi in 2.4 GHz just setup the wifi to your 5GHz network and it will work just fine !

Using an x835 box and pressing the power button does not shut down the x835 board & fan. Should it? The Pi switches off but the fan is still spinning and the blue power light is on. No jumper was removed.

1. x835 supports PI 3B+; 2. X835 is stackble, but the USB 3 cable is shorten, you need use the long USB 3 cable.

I think this system configuration X735 + X835 doesnt works well together. I have exactly the same setup, when i powered on the whole system, it seems my HDD died suddenly...and i got a smell of burning then. HHD died...

i changed the HDD, and i have the latching switch that dont work now, system boot up but latching switch just doesnt works. I think something when wrong for the X835 (or X735) when my first HDD burn.

i got much mail with geekworm for that, and im waiting for an answer, they assume they did test their boards before selling.

I dont think they are going to exchange the boards....

Hi, I purchased the X835 case, X835 SATA board and the X735 together with a 4TB WD RED HDD. Partitioning of the HDD was ok but I was not able to format the HDD. After a couple of hours formating, the Pi get stocked. At the moment I'm using an external USB-to-SATA adpter wich works fine.

Do you have any suggestion?
