Overview

This is an ultra-compact raspberry pi 4 dual 2.5 inch sata hdd/ssd storage board X883, it allows two 2.5" HDD/SSD to working at the same time with your Raspberry Pi 4. The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port delivers a blistering data transfer rate of up to 5Gbps, letting you transfer a large amount of data in seconds.

x883 will replace X829

Note:

  • Raspberry pi, 2.5" SATA SSDs/HDDs, power adapter are all not included
  • Due to installation restrictions, please pay attention to the thickness of 2.5" SSD/HDD
  • As with all SSDs, new SSD/HDD must be formatted before use
  • Older SSD drives with less efficient flash media may not perform as well as newer drives

Features

  • Ultra-compact storage solution for Raspberry Pi 4 - Dual 2.5" SATA HDD/SSD Shield, supports UASP NOT trim
  • Supports dual 2.5 SATA HDDs/SSDs working at the same time.
  • The newly designed USB connector can transmit more reliably.
  • Integrated USB 3.1 Gen1 to SATA 6Gb/s bridge controllers
  • Quick file transfer with high-speed USB3.1 5Gb/s connectivity from a PC or a Mac
  • Fully compatible with X735 for intelligent power management and cooling your Raspberry Pi
  • Fully compatible with X765 for powering over Ethernet (POE, 5V 5A)
  • Fully compatible with X728 for uninterruptible power supply (18650 UPS, 5.1V 6A, smart power mgmt)

How to Power

Since X883 can install two 2.5-inch hard drives, it needs a high-quality power supply to provide enough current. Please use high quality power adapter that with inner protection, the low quality PSU may damage the X883 board and not recognized the HDD/SSD.

  • Power supply: 5Vdc +/-5% , ≥4A
  • Ports & Connectors: DC jack - 5.5x2.1mm
  • (Note: DC5525 Jack is compatible with DC5521, so you can also use the PSU with DC5525 Jack)

This thing died after 3 days of use... Tried to access my files and only HDD2 was showing up. HDD1 doesn't connect to the raspberry... Even the LED on this thing for HDD1 is off. Tried to swap drives but only the disk that's plugged to HDD1 sata will be on.

Hello,

X883 is equivalent to connecting 2 HDDs to the USB port of Raspberry Pi, does not support RAID1

Powering up the board only HDD1 comes up LED and HDD2 never lit up. Powered by MeanWell PSU 5V 5A. Delivered by Amazon's Geekworm store. Raspberry Pi4 never detects any of the HDDs.

Please release a case for this board or bring back the C1 for the older board! It's the only thing stopping me from buying all of the parts from you for the nas/set-top computer I'm working on. My requirements are: dual ssd, power management board w/ Uninterrupted Power Supply & button operated safe shutdown support, and a really good fan (preferably an Ice Tower style cooling system) to keep it all cool. You guys have 90% of the parts I need, the only thing missing is a case to keep it all safe. PLEASE HELP!

Hi what is the case to use with this board. It used to be an X829-C1 but I can't seem to find it in the store anymore. Can you tell me the new compatible equivalent? Thanks

Hi,X883 does not have a metal case yet, and we will consider developing a Case for it; But X829-C1 has been discontinued.

Power is supplied to x883 according to the 5v 5a standard. However, hdd2 is not recognized among hdd1 and 2. The light comes on in the led.

Hi, there. I was powering my 4b and x883 with x735. But whatever I tried, only HDD1 light up and works properly. HDD2 never lights up and system can not recognize any disk plugged into HDD2. Any ideas?

Hi 2 questions on this, 1) What are the key difference between this and the X829 board?

2) On the limitations of the thickness of the HDD. Would I be able to install taller standoffs to fit larger disks? (Especially the bottom ones, top one, seems like it'd be limited by the USB connector) Would really love it if you guys design products for 15MM 2.5" HDD since they have higher capacities than 7mm ones (5TB vs 2TB). SSD have higher storage capacities, but those are much more expensive!

Hi,X883 is not transferred via USB HUB, theoretically more stable. And there may be a matching metal case. But there are requirements for the thickness of the hard disk. If you want to use a 15mm HDD, you can consider using x880

If I were to increase the standoffs height (on both sides) to accommodate the thicker HDDs, will I be able to simply replace the USB 3-D connector with 2x USB3 cables? Or is there more to it to that component than just connecting the 4 USB ports together? (Just a curious question)

Yes,you can use 2x USB3 cables replace USB 3-D connector
