  • Only compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero 2W now
  • Removed 3 standard USB-A 2.0 ports (Users have less need for this. Can directly use OTG port on the Raspberry Pi motherboard)
  • Removed 4-pin header for external power swtich and always-on power option(Users have less need for this. Can can solder it yourself if needed)
  • Smaller size, simplified use

PS:
1. Shorting AL and ON will automatically power on
2. GND and PSW are pins for external reset/momentary switch

X306 is an ultra-thin one cell 18650 UPS shield designed for Raspberry Pi Zero 2W.

  • BOOKWORM does not require any setup and can be used directly with a keyboard and mouse.

X306 V1.1 4Pin header function description

4 Pin header function description:

Pin Function
AL ON: Pin 1&2 Short: Power always on, power button disabled;
AL ON: Pin 1&2 Open: Power button Press to switch on, Hold 3 seconds to switch off
PWR SW: Pin 3&4 for external 2-pin momentary switch

"AL ON" enable, "PWR SW" will be disable.

"PWR SW" enable, "AL ON" will be disable.

FAQ

Q1. What 18650 battery is recommended?

A: 3.7V flat top 18650 battery is required. 18650 battery dimension is as follow

Please use high quality batteries from Samsung 35E 18650 lithium battery, Panasonic NCR18650B, Toshiba, etc. Do not use the battery with built-in protection circuit because it will limit the discharge current.

Q2. What is the power output for each usb port of X306 V1.1 Version?

A: It is 5V, all ports share 4A, not limited to 500mA.

Q3. Is there any way I can check from the raspberry pi if it's connected to the power or the battery from the UPS?

A: When connected to the power supply to X306, the power supply supplies power to the Raspberry Pi; remove the power supply, it is powered by the battery.

Q4. No data on the usb ports?

A: There is a feedback from buyers that solved this problem. Please refer to go to:X306#comment-4545

in config.txt comment out: dtoverlay=dwc2
and in cmdline.txt remove: modules-load=dwc2,g_ether
reboot and it works!

I have soldered the 4-pin header in. I want to use the 4-pin header as a power supply instead of the pogo pins. The 4-pin header does only deliver 3.3V. The pogo pins deliver 5V.

Is there a way for the 4-pin header do deliver 5V?

Hello, ①That's a jumper cap. it is used to short circuit always-on power option : 【AL ON: Short: Power always on, power button disabled】;

②If you want to use always-on power function, you need to prepare the solder pins yourself and solder it in the 【AL ON 】position and then use the jumper cap to short-【AL ON】 to enable always-on power function. please refer to X306#Updated info

Hi My board makes some strange low sound while connected to the charger via usb-c. When battery is charging the sound is low, and once charged I'd say the sound become lower but more intense. Is it expected?

When disconnected from charger, there's no sound.

It comes from the bottom right corner, where type-c and Raspberry power pins are (#1 in the picture above). It's hard to say more precisely.

- The board version is 1.3 - Sound exists both with and without a heatsink

- I also noticed that the sound may disappear if I press down the heatsink with great power. But unfortunately screwing it hard didn't help.

FYI The issue was in the power supply. Though the sound comes from the board, using a 10W power supply from Apple solves the problem. Connecting the board to the DC source eliminates sound too.

I see a lot of people knocking this board, i just want to say it's working great for me, I put virtual here server on a pi zero WH and it works amazingly. I can take my portable usb hub out to the garage and plug my laser cutter into it, then go back to my office and burn for a couple hours only using half battery or so. I didn't do anything special.

I was hesitant to buy this product because of some of the comments but I am glad I bought it. It is exactly what I need. I had a spare battery lying around without use, so I needed a UPS hat. The USB hub was a great extra. But, many comments here and reddit posts complained about USB hub not working. I had an impression that it is not working for everyone. But I can confirm, it is working for me. lsusb detects my usb drives (sandisk cruzer blade) and I can mount them. So if you needed a confirmation that this is a working product, you got it. It does work. Both the USB hub and the UPS part. Maybe the other guys had faulty units, dunno.

Hi, I'm also having the same problem with the USB ports, none of them are working. They are powering things, but no data goes through. I have confirmed the pogo pins are making contact, and have tried using a USB hub on the pi alone, without the UPS, and the hub works fine, so there's something wrong with this UPS. Does it need a ferrite ring?

Would love to solve this issue!

I am having the same issue, no data on the usb ports, it just turn it on but no data, I cannot see the hub on lsusb, I can see this is a known issue a lot of post here with the same issue...

Easy solution, that Geekworm support does not know....

in config.txt comment out: dtoverlay=dwc2

and in cmdline.txt remove: modules-load=dwc2,g_ether

reboot and it works!

Hi, we are sending you an email, hoping that you can provide some hardware installation pictures. The products are tested before leaving the factory, and there will be basically no quality problems. I hope you can check the test ponits under the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, are these test ponits clean and the pogo pins align well with each test pins? This may affect the USB ports which make it not work.
