Overview

This X301 is a 2.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD storage expansion board with USB HUB function for the raspberry pi zero 2 w.

Geekworm has provided X-series storage solutions for Raspberry Pi since 2017, our storage expansion boards have been continuously improved with the upgrade of Raspberry Pi. Many Geekworm users contacted us to inquire about the Zero 2 W storage expansion board, that is why the X301 is born.


Note:

  • X301 is only compatible with Raspberry Pi Zero 2W, NOT support other raspberry pi zero board.
  • Raspberry pi micro OTG port cannot be used as it is occupied by USB HUB

How to Power

Power via USB C 5V In port of X301

Power supply requirement: 5Vdc +/-5% , ≥3A

How to Cool

Recommend to use with Geekworm C296 aluminum heatsink for Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W. C296 also compatible with raspberry pi zero w by using thermal pads of different thicknesses, thermal pads for raspberry pi zero w is not included.

Q1: Does the X301 support boot from the ssd/hdd?

A: No, the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W does not support boot from SSD/HDD.

The Pi Zero 2 W DOES support boot from USB out of the box. I have tried both a USB thumbdrive and an SSD through a USB SATA adapter on an OTG-to -USB cable. All work fine. But for some reason the X301, which is essentially an OTG adapter, does not allow booting from the HDD/SSD attached. Big disappointment.

If you FAT32 format an SD card and put the bootcode.bin file from PiOS on it, you are able to boot from the X301 attached hdd/ssd. There is also an anclosure available to 3D print on the Printables website.

How does the X301 connect to SATA drives? Is there a place to plug in a SATA cable?

Or are you recommending that a USB to SATA adapter cable be used?

Hello! I have raspberry PI Zero 2W.

I in installed Ubuntu Server 22.04 on it and ETH port and USB ports are not available. is there anydditional driver for Ubuntu for x301?

Hello,may be a problem with some software settings, but we have not tested Ubuntu Server 22.04 yet, and we will update the wiki if we find any results.

By making the screw holes for attaching the sdd/hdd threaded you make it nearly impossible to attach the sdd/hdd. When I did get the screw to catch the drives threaded hole the drive is not against the built-in stand off.

Hello, there are many types of hard disks. It may be caused by the compatibility of the hard disk. It is recommended that you replace the hard disk. Generally, there is no problem with the screws.
