X873 V1.2
X873 V1.2
X873 SSD Interface

Overview

In May 2021, the X873 has been updated with new longer USB3 connector, so the X857-C3 case will not support with the X873 which you ordered after May 5th 2021.

This is new updated version from X872.

Some changes:

  • We removed the DC JACK power socket of X873, X873 is powered via USB 3.0 connector.
  • We use shorter copper spacer to connect Raspberry Pi 4 and X873 V1.2, which reduces the height of the entire product, so the matching metal case X857-C3 is shoter 3mm than X857-C1;
  • X872 supports TRIM but not UASP, X873 version supports UASP but not TRIM.
  • After our test, X873 can connect to 2.4G wifi in seconds without the metal case. However, if X873 work with a metal case or external USB 3.0 devices such as a mouse or keyboard, you may still need to use Ethernet or 5G AP.
  • But if you use a metal shell like X857-C3, then you can only use 5.8G wifi AP, 2.4G wifi will not be available(be shielded by metal case);
  • As a Raspberry pi NAS device, we advised that you use ethernet network to replace wifi, this will be more stable and reliable.

Features

  • Supports M.2 NVMe SSD 2280 lengths only
  • Allows booting OS from your HDD/SSD for faster app opens, web serving and file copying (see FAQ 1)
  • USB3.1 Gen1 5Gb/s connectivity offers plug-and-play functionality on your Raspberry Pi 4
  • Ultra-fast Data Transfers from a PC or a Mac (USB3.1 Gen2 10Gb/s, Gen1 5Gb/s, USB2.0 480Mb/s)
  • Integrated USB 3.1 Gen2 to PCIe Gen3x2 10Gb/s bridge controller

Matching Metal Case

In May 2021, the X873 has been updated with new longer USB3 connector, so the X857-C3 case will not support with the X873 which you ordered after May 5th 2021.

Please refer to X857-C3.

Note: The case of X872 and X873 V1.2 are different. X872 should use X857-C1 Case, but X873 V1.2 use X857-C3 Case (Only for the X873 which ordered before May 2021).

FAQ

Q1. Does the X873 support Optane Memory?

A: Sorry, NO, this is not tested.

Q2. What to do if the X873 does not boot normally?

A:Please use Raspberry Pi imager (or Win32DiskImager) File:Win32DiskImager.zip to burn the firmware to the SSD on windows computer,If copying from SD card to SSD, it should not work. If you need to boot from the SSD, you need to use Win32DiskImager to burn the system to the SSD. Use the SD CARD COPIER that comes with RASPBIEERY PI OS. It may not work.

Q3. Would the X873 be compatible with the Coral M.2 Accelerator B+M key?

A: Sorry, not support.

Hi,

There is no replacement or equivalent available for NVMe SSD. If you use M.2 NGFF SSD or mSATA SSD, you can use X862 or X857 board

Hello,

Please use another brand of SSD to test it.

Not recommend to use SAMSUNG SSD, as there will be BIG EMC interference.

I got a X873 but its not working properly on my Pi4b 8gb. Raspbian does not detect my SSD but if I connect the x873 directly to my PC using USB A male-male, the ssd shows up. When i plug in the USB bridge to my Pi4b, all other USB ports will stop working. Need some guide please.
