But We've updated the FAQ and added relevant info to product documents (please refer to #FAQ-Q2. Thanks a lot for your feedback.)
  • 06:20, 20 May 2026 185.82.238.74 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (I found a solution and I am updating my original post. Thanks to an article at www.root.cz/zpravicky/#zpravicka-9 and a subsequent discussion on the RPi forum at forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=394580&sid=5cdec88004c1bedee4b2a8fb34b4e510&start=125#p2375717 regarding the Radxa controller (which uses the same JMB585 controller), I followed the instructions and added the line dtoverlay=pcie-32bit-dma-pi5 to /boot/firmware/config.txt. Everything is now working under the 6.18.x kernel branch.)

Ran some updates through openmediavault and got hte problem. I can say that 6.12.87 does not work either, but 6.12.75 does. Will there be any updated firmware etc to avoid problems like this in the future??)

  • 06:04, 15 May 2026 185.82.238.74 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (Hello, I have just found out, that x1009 doesn't work with kernel 6.18.x branch. I had to downgrade back to 6.12 branch.)
  • 17:15, 9 February 2026 Ruby talk contribs performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (Sorry, there’s no ready-made plug-and-play LED connector – the only way is to solder external wires to the LED's pads.)
  • 10:26, 6 February 2026 161.51.55.245 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (The X1009 combined with the Pi5 looks almost perfect to replace my ageing NAS. The only problem for me is there doesn't appear to be any LED output connector from the X1009 to power external individual drive LEDs on the front on my existing Tranquil PC case. Is there any easy way to power external drive activity LEDS? Thank you)

  • 17:51, 7 January 2026 Ruby talk contribs performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (Hi there! Thanks for your questions about the Geekworm X1009. Here are the answers: 1. We haven’t tested whether the latest firmware supports booting from HDD/SSD yet. 2. It uses the JMB585 PCIe to SATA chip. 3. The SATA power connector (5V, 12V) is controlled by the Raspberry Pi’s 3.3V pin. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!)
  • 00:24, 3 January 2026 188.154.133.223 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (Hello, I have some Questions: The X1009 is designed for data storage purposes and does not currently support booting from HDD/SSD with the existing firmware. Any positive news on this now? - Which PCIe to SATA chip is used? I assume JMB585? - Is the SATA power connector(5V, 12V) switched by EN-pin of the Pi? Like fullsize PCIe connector on the x1010?)

It is difficult to determine the cause based on your description. could you please send pictures or videos via email, which is more convenient for communication. Hope to get your understanding.)

  • 21:09, 16 July 2025 2.220.128.133 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (@Lisa of course I already restarted, tried a different FCC, and even a different Raspberry Pi 5B. Took off all the harddrives and just had the naked shield connected - controller was not recognized in any of these cases. I just want to know what could have possibly caused this so I know whether to replace the broken one with a new one or migrate to another solution instead that doesn't involve an X1009.)

You need to unplug the pins of PIN2 and PIN4 of expansion header (GPIO bridge connector) .)

So I need to disconnect GPIO bridge connector if I want to power PI and X1009 separately? As documentation says: Don't power the X1009 via DC powe jack and the Raspberry Pi5 via USB-C at the same time. Just power the X1009, and then the X1009 will power the Pi 5 via the GPIO.)

  • 05:13, 21 June 2025 173.70.167.178 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (Is it possible to power the Raspberry Pi 5 via a USB Type-C cable, while powering HDDs directly from an independent 12V power supply? In that case, will the Raspberry Pi 5 still be able to power the X1009 over GPIO — essentially in reverse? The DC 12V 5.5x2.1mm power input would not be used in this setup. If that is not possible, then I will need to use two 12V power supplies: - one 12V power supply for the X1009 (and Raspberry Pi 5) - another 12V power supply for the HDDs. The reason I'm...)

  • 21:27, 18 March 2025 62.176.175.178 talk performed unknown action "comments/add" on X1009 (Dear Lisa and Harry, as mentioned earlier, i am powering my HDDs with Corsair 850 W ATX PSU. That is fine, now, i would like to use 5 V output from Corsair to power Raspi to sort of offload onboard (on the SATA hat) 12 V to 5 V regulator. Can i feed 5 V from Corsair to the hat via the HDD connector? As You can imagine, Corsair has plenty of power for my Raspi and this way i would like to derease heat produced by the hat... thanks)

I did not even had to enable pci port:) I will put the Ubuntu card in and make video hopefully next week or so. Many thanks.)

I have found out that if i connect all 5 HDDs to the shield, the Raspi would not boot. As long as i disconnect one (i tried first on port 0 and fifth on port 4), raspi boots like charm :))

As i tried not to connect them, to power raspi from separate supply and HDDs from other 12 V supply, the shield did not seem to work at all. I am trying to separate it as if i plug all 5 HDD seagate skyhawk 4 TB to the board, the raspi does not boot, even if the board provide 5V on the headers powering raspi.)
