Your SSD uses a Phison controller, which is highly likely to be incompatible.
We apologize that we cannot provide a full compatibility list, as there are simply too many SSD models on the market for us to test individually.
The X100x series is only a PCIe adapter and does not affect compatibility. The root issue is the compatibility between the Raspberry Pi 5 and the SSD itself.
Please refer to the official Raspberry Pi documentation, together with the information below, to check compatibility on your own.
- We recommend avoiding NVMe SSDs with a Phison controller due to confirmed incompatibility.
- Only M.2 NVMe SSDs are supported; M.2 SATA, PCIe AHCI, and other non-NVMe M.2 devices are not compatible.
- Older NVMe drives may perform worse than newer ones due to less efficient flash media.
New NVMe SSDs must be partitioned and formatted when first used with Raspberry Pi to be accessible.
- SSDs with a Polaris controller also have compatibility issues. Please test with another drive; compatibility with Raspberry Pi 5 is independent of X100X series boards.
- NVMe SSDs using the MAP1202 controller lack PCIe Gen 2 backward compatibility and require PCIe Gen 3 to be detected. They are not recommended.
