So the only difference I only had one of the power management pins connected gpio17 I guess it needs all 3. I'll have to see what happens when I try to use 18 as a PWM.)

I got mine, plugged it into my PI, installed the batteries, plugged power in to the usb power on the X720. It only gives ~3.6v on the 5v lines and 0v on the 3.3v lines.
