For completeness, I also tried both the USB-C x1202 input, and 12V into the DC input on the x1202. This didn't make any difference; the charging continued despite driving GPIO16 high and despite the CHG LED being off.

The board seems to work well aside from not turning the charging off when GPIO16 is driven high.
