New page

I have the X1003 v1.3 on an 8GB pi 5. Latest pi firmware (Dec 2024 date).

256GB nvme from amazon that lspci shows as: KIOXIA Corporation NVMe SSD Controller BG5 (DRAM-less).

The setup is very sensitive to the pcie cable used and pcie speed set in config.txt on the pi.

My x1003 came only with the short gold/kapton color cable that (I think) has a ground plane on one side and the ground pins connected with vias to the ground plane. Look very closely at the cable to identify the vias.

The stock/OEM cable did not work at all, at any pcie speed. At default raspi pcie speed (Gen 2?) it will mostly boot, but crash the pi after 2-3 mins of operation. At picie = GEN3, the pi wouldn't boot.

I switched to a full straight-through cable (no vias or ground plane) with all the pins straight connected from the pi to the X1003 (the white-colored cable mentioned in other posts).

I didnt have a 16 pin (I think its 16 pins) x 0.5mm pitch cable around, so I sliced down a 22 pin x0.5mm cable to 16 pins carefully with a single edge razor blade. Its not hard to do if you place the oem cable on top of the one to be cut and carefully slice through the new cable with some magnification to enable seeing the setup clearly.

The cut down cable is about 4" long (what I had around), so I wasn't expecting much, but its been flawlessly at the default pcie speed. Haven't tested it much with GEN3 speeds, but it appears OK.

I wrapped some aluminum tape around the hack-up cable to provide a little shielding. Lotta 1s and 0s going through that cable.

SO: (1) go to a straight connected cable, and (2) use the stock pcie speed: dtparam = pciex1 in /boot/firmware/config.txt. A shorter cable probably helps too.<!-- migrated from Comments; original IP: 24.17.155.221 -->
