On further testing, I think the GPIO16 driven high does disable the charger and does not continue raising the battery voltage.<br />

I previously incorrectly assumed two things:<br />
1. I thought the board design would always be running the pi5 from battery voltage. This would be a simple "dual conversion" setup. Instead, the board appears to not run the pi5 from battery voltage when sufficient input power is available, even if the charger is disabled. This is great.<br />
2. I incorrectly interpreted the batteries recovering up to a higher voltage as the charger being active. After draining the batteries further down, and observing the battery voltage with charger off and power input on, the batteries recover up to a higher rest voltage, but not all the way back up to 4.15V - they stay at a lower level (such as 3.974 indicated). This shows that the charger is indeed turned off while GPIO16 is driven high.<br />
